Boulevard Dumaguete
Dumaguete or “The City of Gentle People” is the main seaport and capital of Negros Oriental, a province located at the southwestern part of the Visayas Group of Islands in the Philippines.

This coastal city is also known as the University Town or The Center of Learning in the South because of the presence of the world-famed Silliman University (established in 1901) and three other popular universities (St.Paul’s University-Dumaguete (1904), Foundation University and Negros Oriental State University(NORSU)), not withstanding 3 other colleges, 12 elementary schools and 9 high schools. It is therefore a Mecca for students from all places and for all levels.

Dumaguete city is not only known as an educational destination for local and foreign students, it is also known to tourists, particularly to the Japanese and Europeans, for its friendly city atmosphere towering aged old trees and lush edges as its main city frame, while in its perimeters are scenic white sand beaches, exotic dive spots, aqua adventuring spots perfect for watching dolphins and whales, restaurants with live bands, disco houses for clubbing and night life, and beautiful limestone caves and waterfalls for spelunkers.

Lake Balinsasayaw & Lake Danao
The Lakes
27 kms from Dumaguete, in the municipality of Sibulan, is the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes National Park. Rising 894 meters above sea level, the twin lakes, Lake Balinsasayao and Lake Danao are relatively small crater lakes but go down deep. According to the boatman, they go down 90 meters. The 2 lakes are separated by a narrow and low ridge, from which a 3-level viewing tower is erected. The view is magnificent from up there. There's good carp to be fished, but one can also enjoy kayaking, swimming or boating. The entire area is forested and birds abound.

Bais City

Dolphin & Whale Watching
Bais City is well known for its proximity to the protected marine sanctuary, the Tañon Strait. From the Capiñahan Wharf in the South Bay, the boat heads out to the Bais Bay and into the Tañon Strait where the dolphins frolic in the water, and the whales emerge from the deep. It is a fascinating  to experience and behold these sea creatures up close. Other activities include swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling and scuba diving in the nearby reefs.

Dolphin and Whale Watching is fast becoming a national attraction as well. It has gained popularity among travelers both local and foreign because of its appealing combination of activities.

The adventure starts with a cruise along Bais Bay then out to Tañon Strait, the natural habitat of several whale and dolphin specie. Among the kinds of dolphins you may encounter during the trip are , pantropical spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and long snouted spinner dolphins. Melon headed whales, short finned pilot whales, pygmy sperm whales, pygmy killer whales and dwarf sperm whales are commonly found in the Tañon Strait too.

Manjuyod

Sand Bar
This pristine 7 kilometer stretch of premium white sand can be accessed via a short 15 minute boat ride from Capiñahan Wharf in the South Bais Bay, Bais City Negros Oriental. It is basically an island towards the North Bais Bay in the Tañon Strait that emerges only during low tides. On the island you can find native wooden houses built on stilts – and which, during high tide, appears to be floating on the water. These cottages could be rented for overnight stays.

Though technically belonging to the jurisdiction of the neighboring Manjuyod town, the sand bar is closely associated to Bais City because of its proximity and popularity in the Bais area. The boat is temporarily anchored so that the guests can picnic, swim, sunbathe, and laze around, snorkel or scuba dive in the waters surrounding the sand bar.

The Manjuyod Sand Bar is an estimated 600 hectare total strip area, including the submerged portions. Also known as the Sumapao Shoal, it is a certified tourist attraction because of its unique characteristic. It has been said that among the tourist spots in the vicinity, this one has the most potential.

Mabinay

Explore the 5 caves of Mabinay
If spelunking is your type of adventure then Mabinay is just the right town to visit. Located 87 kilometers northwest of Dumaguete City, Mabinay is mainly an upland town and is the second to the last town before reaching the province of Negros Occidental.

The interior of the land is primarily bounded with mountains and getting there is a bumpy uphill ride requiring two hours of travel time from Dumaguete City. On both sides of the road one gets a good view of the surrounding hills with oddly placed trees on the inclines and some clusters of lush vegetation. It is the province’s second largest town.

Second Longest Cave System in the PhilippinesMabinay holds some of the country’s most fascinating caves. The Odloman cave is 8,870 meters long and has a vertical range of 82 meters. As per the record, it is the second longest cave system in the Philippines. Meanwhile, Odloman Cave has large galleries, many small corridors, active streams and interesting obstacles. Cayaso Cave has a subterranean river flowing beneath its main chamber. It measures 2,222 meters long and ranks as the 9th longest cave in the Philippines

Panligawan Cave has a big gaping hole upfront and requires a descent. It is a short one but has a skylight in the middle. The nearby Pandalian Cave is physically similar to Panligawan Cave – short but cavernous. Then there is the Crystal Cave, so called because of the many stalactites and stalagmites stuffing the place. Some of these have formed into pillars or columns, some into draperies that appear to shroud some sections. The Crystal Cave has a length of 209 meters and a depth of 5 meters.

Exploring caves can be a very thrilling experience. For beginners, it is necessary to have a knowledgeable and trustworthy guide. It could be just a simple trekking and climbing but could also entail squeezing into tight crevices, crawling, or swimming in the underground rivers.

Valencia

Picture
Casaroro Falls
Valencia generally has a cool climate because of its elevation of up to 500 meters above sea level. It is a town blessed with fertile soil where agriculture is the main source of livelihood. Aside from Casaroro Falls, Valencia is also blessed with geothermal springs, the province’s source of electricity.

In the town of Valencia, Negros Oriental located 9.4 kilometers west of Dumaguete City lies the beautiful Casaroro Falls considered to be the most photographed waterfall in the entire Negros province.

Casaroro Falls is lodged deep into the rock crevices of the rugged Valencia mountains. With an astounding height of 100 feet, the water plunges into a deep cold basin before it flows down to a stream. The waterfall is considerably narrow, instead of the usual wide cascade, but this is precisely what makes Casaroro unique. Though despite its narrowness, the volume of water that drops is heavy and causes a roar as it touches the pool. Around the basin are natural boulders huge enough to rest any traveler’s weary feet.

Siquijor Island

White Sand Beaches
A mystical and magical island that had once been part of the Philippines’ Negros Oriental, Siquijor

Island was then known as the Island of Fire. The island of Siquijor is reputed to have shamans, magic potions, witches, and sorcerers. Many Filipinos avoid staying overnight on the island due to superstitious beliefs.

The over a hundred kilometers of coastline of Siquijor are made up of beaches of white sands. Located in the region of the Visayas, Siquijor is known as popular vacation spot for both locals and tourists alike because of the lure of its unspoiled coral reefs that are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.

The terrain on Siquijor is generally hilly and there are spectacular formations of white rock that have been formed by the fickle winds. Six very interesting caves were formed, Cantabon Cave being the most popular of all. Cantabon Cave is a wondrous cavern filled with stalagmites, stalactites, pools and waterfalls.
